Tuesday, April 21, 2009 – not enough blog
Hi all,
I’m being told I’m not blogging enough. Well I have an excellent excuse – right?
I’m in a true swirl of wedding planning. I’m having a blast being goofy and giddy. My friends and family have made this time really fun. Fred is as excited as I am. I think we are feeling like we are in our 20’s again – only we’re not. That is making everything way fun.
My daughter Emily and I went shopping for a dress. I thought we were looking for a matron of honor dress for her. We ended up finding the perfect dress for me! We went to Fabulous Bridal in Covington. They actually had dresses in big girl sizes that weren’t made at Tent City. They were beautiful. A bit “bridey” for me, but still beautiful.
Now “bridey” is something I’m getting use to. I know I’m the bride – but I’m over 50 for heaven sake. It felt like I was playing “dress up” trying on the white, frilly, fluffy dresses. It felt silly.
Still, there was a dress there that literally “fell” off the rack into the consultant’s hand. I was verbally describing the dress I wanted. I wanted a simple dress worn underneath a jacket of lace. The look was vintage in a way. I found a dress on a web site, but was told by Laura, Emily’s sister-in-law and the official dressmaker, that the lace I wanted was very expensive and would probably end up costing more than one ordered. So, there we were trying on dresses when one fell off its hanger! The consultant thought it was a veil, but as she pulled it off, it was a jacket! A lace jacket! Then came the dress. A simple ivory dress. Perfect. What’s even more bizarre, it was in my size! How was that possible?? Wedding dress shops don’t make dresses in big girl sizes. I couldn’t get a dress in a size 16 (average American woman size by the way) when I was in my 20’s, let alone the size I am now. But sure enough, there it was.
It does need altering. Dress makers assume if you are a big girl, you are big all over. Well, I’m not – I have no boobs. So, there is too much fabric there. That really is the only big alteration that will be necessary. Removing fabric is easier than adding gussets.
I’m so excited about the dress! To top it off, Emily said to me, “Hey Mom you do realize the dress was on the sale rack, right?” No! I had forgotten. Not only is the dress exactly what I wanted – it was half off! Half off – alot!
I am very blessed. I have a wonderful man who loves me. An awesome daughter who encourages me on so many levels, friends and family who scream into my ear when they hear the news of the pending nuptials and a life that never ceases to amaze me.
It sounds like everything is just falling together perfectly for you. I am so happy for you and Fred. Can’t wait to get together again when things slow down for you!

I am really happy that all of these wonderful things are happening for you.
